A Forgotten Church Building
On a brisky morning (about 6 C), my neighbour and I decided to bike to the coast. On the way there we noticed a small church from a distance and turned to check it out. An old lady was hesitant to open the locked gates (the last time she was robbed by two men), but when she saw that we were "laowai" (foreigners), she showed us this old Catholic church. She only spoke the local Pudong dialect and no Mandarin at all it seemed; all I was able to make out that this church is connected to the big one in Tangzhen, that it will be torn down to make room for development this year, and that her latin name is Lucia. The building is still used for worship services. To find it on Google Earth: 31°13'11.46"N & 121°40'43.03"E.
Before posing for this picture, this short but great lady made sure she tidied her hair and put on her best sweater. Truly a class act! (Click on the picture for a larger pic)
