Real or virtual?
Being here on a 5-day business trip, I was hoping to rent a bike on this Sunday morning and explore the coast line of Shenzhen 深圳. Unfortunately, nobody seems to know where to rent one, the weather wasn't cooperating either (windy), and I had to check a construction site in the morning. I think I've nearly exhausted all of my excuses now, because a real cyclist is better prepared and bikes no matter what...
Shenzhen is truly an amazing story. A mere fishing village up to 1979, favourable economic policies transformed this place in a thriving city of 6 million people (virtually no locals), situated right next to Hong Kong. Read more here.
Perhaps my reluctance to ride today can be attributed to a long day yesterday. My colleague and I took the train to Guangzhou 广州 (about 70 min) in the morning and then returned at 11:30 pm last night. On the trip there, we met a 5-year old friend who rode the train the first time in his life. As his favourite toys are computer games, his multiple virtual worlds are probably more exciting to him, he nevertheless was an entertaining travel companion, as speaking to a foreigner was most likely a first for him too.
